<Communication with foreign people>
The episode of the country song singer at the sushi restaurant was a new viewpoint for me. I learned that the “correct” translation doesn’t always make sense. Until then, when I had visitors from other countries, I used an electronic dictionary to explain something in Japan with the “correct” English word. In many cases, they would say just “OK.” After the lesson, I happened to have a visitor from UK and tried not to use a dictionary. The result was he showed me a much much better reaction. From this experience, I learned that we do not necessarily have to use “correct” words, but focus on being in their shoes.
